Domestic air traffic fell 4% in December: ICRA
India's domestic flights saw fewer travelers last December, dropping by about 4% compared to the previous year.
The total number of passengers fell to 1.43 crore, and numbers were also down from November.
Changes in market share
IndiGo, usually the top player, lost some ground—its market share slipped from nearly 64% to just under 60%.
Operational hiccups like pilot rest rules, tech issues, and bad weather led to 2,507 cancelations (Dec 3-5, 2025) — plus 1,852 delayed flights between Dec 3 and 5, 2025, affecting lakhs of flyers.
Meanwhile, Air India Group and other airlines like Akasa Air and SpiceJet picked up more passengers and grew their share.
Cancelations and on-time performance
Flight cancelations shot up to almost 7%, way higher than November's rate.
On-time performance wasn't great either: Air India Group managed about two-thirds of its flights on time; IndiGo did slightly less well; SpiceJet lagged behind with less than half its flights departing as scheduled.
