The Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) has noticed that several individuals, agencies, corporate bodies, online legal tech platforms, and unauthorized service providers have been misusing the official logo of the Indian Patent Office.

The CGPDTM has clarified that no person or entity is allowed to display or use its logo without prior formal approval from the competent authority in CGPDTM/DPIIT.

The CGPDTM has also warned entities and individuals currently displaying the IPO logo or deceptively similar designs on their websites, promotional banners, visiting cards, portals or application interfaces to take them down.
It has clarified that continued unauthorized use of the official IPO logo is an offense under Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950; Trade Marks Act, 1999; Copyright Act, 1957; and Information Technology Act.

The CGPDTM has warned that non-compliance with the notice will lead to immediate civil and criminal prosecution, administrative action, and referral to law enforcement agencies without any further notice.

They should use only the official portal (www.ipindia.gov.in) for statutory filings, updates, and communications related to intellectual property rights.
