This Mark Zuckerberg is not the one you know
What's the story
Mark S. Zuckerberg, an Indiana-based bankruptcy attorney, filed a lawsuit against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, earlier this year. The lawsuit stems from the constant confusion and complications caused by his name being similar to that of Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The attorney claims that this similarity has led to his Facebook account being "constantly hacked," businesses refusing his bookings, and endless online requests for money or favors meant for the billionaire tech mogul.
Legal battle
The lawyer's attempts to resolve the issue
Between 2022 and 2025, the Indiana lawyer spent over $11,000 on Meta ads to promote his law firm. However, these ads were often taken down for "impersonating a celebrity" or using an inauthentic name. Despite providing government-issued ID and other documents to verify his identity, Zuckerberg's accounts were repeatedly deactivated by Meta employees who later had to restore them and mark the pages as "verified" to prevent future occurrences.
Account reactivation
Meta has since restored the lawyer's account
In an email exchange with Meta employees after his account was deactivated again, Zuckerberg expressed his frustration. He said, "If you happen to run into the younger, richer Mark Zuckerberg, tell him I say hi and he causes me great aggravation each day." A Meta spokesperson has since confirmed that they have restored Mark S. Zuckerberg's account "after finding it had been disabled in error." The company is now working to prevent such issues in the future.
Problems
The lawyer is facing these issues
The lawyer has to turn off his phone every night to avoid a flood of notifications. When a Facebook scam promised money from "Mark Zuckerberg," he received calls and emails from strangers throughout the day. He gets more than 100+ friend requests everyday from people confusing him with the "other" Zuckerberg. Phone calls are also done to his office by people demanding tech support, or those needing help with their Facebook accounts.
Legal action
'It's not funny'
The Indiana lawyer is now suing Meta, claiming he has lost thousands of dollars in advertising fees due to these issues. "It's not funny," he told Indianapolis news channel WTHR. "Not when they take my money. This really pissed me off." He claimed that Meta is trying to deny him the "full use, benefit and enjoyment" of his own legal name, which he was given before the celebrity was even born.
