Green card holders can't get US small business loans anymore
Business
Starting 30 days after publication (in April 2026), the US Small Business Administration (SBA) will no longer let green card holders access its loan programs.
Only businesses fully owned by US citizens or nationals can apply now, ending the previous rule that allowed up to 5% ownership by green card holders or other foreign nationals.
Critics say it blocks immigrant entrepreneurs from funding
This change affects all SBA loan programs, including popular options like 7(a) and 504 loans.
Critics, including some lawmakers and lenders, say it unfairly blocks immigrant entrepreneurs from vital funding.
As Sen. Edward Markey said, the new rule makes it even tougher for newcomers to build companies in the US.
