IEA says India will become 2nd-biggest renewables market by 2031
Big news for clean energy: The International Energy Agency (IEA) says India will soon be the second-biggest renewable energy market on the planet, right behind China.
By 2031, global renewables are expected to top 4,770 gigawatts, while China's share drops a bit; India's is projected to surge.
India renewables to more than double
India's green growth is picking up speed, expected to be more than double what it was last period.
This jump comes from more solar projects (thanks to strong policies and lots of rooftop installs), faster contract signings, and healthier power companies.
While pumped-storage hydropower is gaining ground with smoother approvals, onshore wind faces some challenges from solar competition.
Still, all signs point to India playing a much bigger role in the world's clean energy future.
