India wants to grab 8-10% of the $1.8 trillion global space economy by 2035.
Dr. Pawan Goenka from IN-SPACe shared this ambitious goal on February 3, 2026, in Singapore, and announced a ₹1,000 crore venture fund to help make it happen.
Budget boost for Department of Space
The government just bumped up the Department of Space's budget to ₹13,705.63 crore for FY 2026-27—about a 2% jump from the 2025-26 Budget Estimate of ₹13,416.20 crore.
Capital spending is up too, now at ₹6,375.92 crore.
Where is the money going?
Most of the cash—₹10,397.06 crore—is headed for Space Technology like rockets and satellites (including Gaganyaan).
Space Applications get funding for things like remote sensing and disaster management.
Funding for planetary missions increased.
Over 390 startups are registered with IN-SPACe
