India and EAEU take steps toward a free trade deal

Business

India just sat down with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in Moscow to map out a possible free trade agreement.
This move is part of an 18-month plan kicked off in August 2025, aiming to open up new markets for Indian businesses, especially small firms, farmers, and fishermen.

Why should you care?

The EAEU covers five countries—including Russia—and has a combined GDP of $6.5 trillion, making it a big opportunity for India to expand its exports beyond the usual markets.
If this deal goes through, it could mean better global reach for Indian products and significant benefits to Indian businesses, including MSMEs.
Plus, both sides agreed on regular meetings to smooth out issues like certifications and logistics, which could make trading easier and faster for everyone involved.
