India, Canada revive free trade agreement discussions

India and Canada are getting back to the table for Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks, which were paused last year due to diplomatic tensions.
After a meeting at the G-7 summit between PM Modi and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, both countries also agreed to bring back their High Commissioners—basically hitting refresh on their diplomatic ties.

TL;DR

What's on the table?

This move signals both countries want to move past recent drama and focus on business.
Even with political bumps, trade between India and Canada grew slightly to $8.4 billion last year.
India is hoping for better market access and easier visas for its professionals, while Canada wants more room for its agricultural and auto exports.
With over 600 Canadian companies already in India, this restart could open up new opportunities in clean energy, tech, and food security—areas that actually impact our future.
