India cuts customs duties on domestically sold SEZ products temporarily
Business
India just rolled out a temporary cut in customs duties for products made in special economic zones (SEZs) and sold within the country.
From April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, these goods will face lower duties, between 5% and 12.5%, but only if the business started production on or before March 31, 2025.
Government aims to boost SEZ competitiveness
The goal is pretty straightforward: help SEZ-made products compete better at home by making them more affordable. This move is part of a bigger push to boost local trade.
Only companies already up and running by the deadline can benefit, so it is really about rewarding those who have invested early.
