India, EU racing to finalize trade deals by end-2025
Business
India and the European Union are racing to finalize some big trade agreements by December 2024.
They're working on a free trade deal, an investment protection pact, and a geographical indications agreement.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal recently met with the EU's Trade Commissioner, and he's heading to Brussels soon to try and sort out the last sticking points.
What do the talks cover?
These talks cover a huge range—23 policy areas like goods, investments, and intellectual property.
The EU wants lower duties on cars and cheaper taxes on things like wine.
The EU is actually India's top trading partner, with $136.53 billion in goods traded in FY23-24 alone.
If these deals go through, Indian exports (think clothes and medicines) could get a real boost.
