India may be 2nd-largest AI hub, GenAI supply shortfall 83%
India may be the world's second-largest AI talent hub with 920,000 professionals, but there's a big skills gap, especially in GenAI deployment, where demand outpaces supply by 83%.
Other areas like deployment engineering, governance, and security are also facing shortages.
Companies are especially hunting for folks with three to five years' experience who can actually build and scale real-world AI solutions.
AI embedded in software and product
Most AI professionals now work embedded in fields like software engineering and product development, showing just how much AI is becoming part of everything.
IT services drive nearly half the GenAI hiring, while BFSI, IT services and GCCs account for 60% of AI deployment demand, since these areas need strict, error-free systems.
Meanwhile, AI governance jobs are growing three times faster than overall AI hiring in regulated sectors like BFSI, pharma and healthcare.
The message: India needs to close these gaps fast if it wants to lead in global AI innovation.
