India ranks 4th in global millionaire population
India is now the world's fourth-biggest home for high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), with nearly 86,000 people holding over $10 million each, says the Knight Frank Global Wealth Report 2025. That puts India just behind the US, China, and Japan. Strong economic growth and a wave of entrepreneurship are fueling this rise, giving India a 3.7% share of the global HNWI crowd.
India added 26 new billionaires last year alone, bringing its total to 191 billionaires worth almost $1 trillion combined. Nearly a third of this wealth is parked in real estate. Meanwhile, Indian HNWIs are increasingly investing in global hotspots like Dubai and London—and by 2028, their numbers are expected to jump another 43%, thanks to growing interest in equities and riskier assets.
