India's gem and jewelry exports rise 3.14% to $2.3B
What's the story
India's gem and jewelry exports grew by 3.14% year-on-year in August, reaching $2.30 billion (approximately ₹21,945.87 crore). The increase was largely due to a surge in shipments of value-added jewelry, according to the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). In August 2025, total exports stood at $2.23 billion (around ₹19,503.52 crore), GJEPC data showed.

Overall gold jewelry exports grew by 11.81%
The overall gold jewelry exports, both plain and studded, grew by 11.81% year-on-year to $999.83 million (around ₹9,546.12 crore).
This was mainly due to strong demand from the US, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, and France.
However, plain gold jewelry exports fell by 23.90% year-on-year to $356.97 million (approximately ₹3,408.32 crore) amid rising prices and limited duty-free gold availability for exporters.

GJEPC chairman highlights increasing demand for finished jewelry
In contrast, shipments of studded gold jewelry saw a massive increase of 51.22% to $642.85 million (around ₹6,137.81 crore).
This growth highlights the increasing demand for finished and value-added jewelry in international markets.
GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali said August's export performance shows India's gem and jewelry industry's resilience and adaptability, emphasizing its ability to create greater value by transforming precious materials into finished products.
Industry evolution
Need for continued policy support and innovation
Bhansali also noted that this trend marks an important step in India's transition from a major processing center to a global hub for design, manufacturing, and value addition.
He added that with continued policy support, innovation and access to international markets, India is well-positioned to capture a larger share of value across the global jewelry supply chain.
