India-US trade deal nears completion
India and the US are close to wrapping up an interim trade deal, possibly by July 8.
Negotiators from both sides have been meeting in Washington, trying to sort things out before President Trump's July 9 deadline for new tariffs kicks in.
TL;DR
Deal could make trading between 2 countries smoother
Right now, the US has paused a steep 26% tariff on Indian goods, but only until that deadline. India wants these extra charges gone for good.
Talks are focused on tricky areas like agriculture and dairy (where India isn't keen to budge), while the US is pushing for lower tariffs on industrial goods and electric vehicles.
In return, India is asking for better terms on exports like textiles and jewelry.
If this deal goes through, it could make trading between the two countries a lot smoother.
