Indian companies' ODI surged 40.8% in FY26 narrowing FDI gap
Indian companies seriously ramped up their global game in FY26: overseas direct investments (ODI) soared by 40.8%, way outpacing the 8.5% growth of foreign money coming into India (FDI).
This shift means the gap between what comes in and what goes out is narrowing fast, with the FDI-to-ODI ratio dropping from 5.5 times to 4.2 times by March 2026.
RBI census: 70.72L/cr inward 16.71L/cr outward
According to RBI's latest census, inward investments hit ₹70.72 lakh crore while outward ones reached ₹16.71 lakh crore, with most of the reporting entities unlisted companies.
The US led FDI into India (16.5%), followed by Mauritius, Singapore, and the UK.
Meanwhile, Indian firms mostly invested abroad in Singapore, the U.A.E. and the US Together, these three destinations made up over half of all Indian ODI in FY26, a sign that Indian businesses are thinking more global than ever before.
