Indian government rethinks quality control orders after industry complaints
The Indian government is rethinking its tough quality control orders (QCOs) after a wave of complaints from businesses.
These rules, which cover everything from steel to engineering goods, have made it harder for companies to operate smoothly.
A panel led by Cabinet Secretary Rajeev Gauba has even suggested scrapping some QCOs to address industry concerns.
Global brands struggle with stock shortages due to QCOs
Many companies say QCOs on imported materials (especially from China) are causing headaches, with global brands struggling because the standards don't match international ones—sometimes leading to stock shortages.
To help out, the government is now giving more time for compliance and offering exemptions for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), hoping to keep business running without dropping product quality.
