IndiGo and Air India, two of India's leading airlines, have reported a significant representation of female pilots in their workforce. IndiGo has 17.5% and Air India has 16% of female pilots on board. These numbers are much higher than the global average and reflect the growing presence of women in aviation roles. The figures were released ahead of International Women's Day celebrations today.

IndiGo's commitment to gender diversity in aviation

IndiGo has over 1,000 women pilots and they make up over 45% of its total workforce. The airline said in a statement that "At IndiGo, women pilots represent 17.5% of the total pilot workforce, which is more than thrice the global average." Beyond pilots, women also hold key positions in other departments such as airport operations (over 30%), operations control center (almost 25%), finance (over 20%), and digital segment (more than 15%).

Air India's focus on empowering women

Air India also boasts a strong female pilot representation of 16%, three times the global average. The airline said women make up 84% of its cabin crew and have increased their representation in airport operations from 24% to 31% in two years. In security, it has risen from 14% to an impressive 22%. The airline employs over 24,000 staff members and invests in programs encouraging women to join various aviation and leadership roles.
