What's the story

IndiGo has announced major changes to its long-haul flight schedule. The airline will suspend its services to Copenhagen from February 17. It will also reduce the frequency of flights on the Delhi-London Heathrow and Delhi-Manchester routes. The decision comes as part of IndiGo's efforts to improve operational reliability amid external challenges affecting its wide-body operations.

Service changes

Why is IndiGo taking these measures?

IndiGo's Boeing 787-9 services have been impacted by changing airspace restrictions due to geopolitical situations and congestion at Indian and foreign airports. These factors have increased flight durations and put pressure on schedules operated with six wide-body aircraft. To mitigate these issues, IndiGo has decided to suspend flights to Copenhagen from February 17 until further notice. The airline currently operates thrice a week between Mumbai and Copenhagen.

Flight frequency

Changes in Delhi-Manchester and Delhi-London Heathrow services

From February 7, IndiGo will reduce its Delhi-Manchester services from five to four times a week. The reduction will further take effect from February 19, reducing the Delhi-Manchester services to three times a week. Similarly, the airline will also reduce its Delhi-London Heathrow services from five times a week to four starting February 9 for the current winter schedule.

Flights to these destinations also canceled

IndiGo has also announced the cancellation of flights to and from four international destinations: Tbilisi (Georgia), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Baku (Azerbaijan), and Tashkent (Uzbekistan). The move comes due to escalating geopolitical tensions around Iran.
