Jaguar Land Rover hit by major cyberattack

Business

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), one of the UK's largest carmakers, was hit by a cyberattack at the end of August that may have exposed company and possibly customer data, which is under investigation.
The breach forced JLR to shut down its global IT systems and pause production at plants in the UK, Slovakia, Brazil, and India.
A hacker group called "Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters" has claimed responsibility.

How bad was it?

The attack brought JLR's main UK factories to a halt for about a month, costing around £50 million each week.
Over 104,000 jobs in the UK supply chain were put at risk—one small supplier even had to let go nearly half its staff.
Analysts say this cyberattack slowed down UK economic growth overall, with total estimated damage hitting £1.9 billion.
Production is now restarting in phases as investigations continue, highlighting just how vulnerable big manufacturers can be to these kinds of threats.
