Meta and Blue Owl to build $27B AI data center

Business

Meta (the company behind Facebook) is teaming up with Blue Owl Capital to build a giant AI data center called Hyperion in Richland Parish, Louisiana.
The project is worth $27 billion—Blue Owl will invest about $7 billion for an 80% stake, while Meta keeps 20% and gets a $3 billion payout.

Hyperion will cover 2,250 acres

Hyperion is huge, covering 2,250 acres and designed to deliver more than 2 gigawatts of compute capacity for Meta's AI projects.
Construction started in late 2025 and is set to wrap up by 2030.
The goal is to boost Meta's AI work and rely less on public cloud services, especially for its Superintelligence Labs.

Meta's data center will help it save costs

By partnering with Blue Owl, Meta can keep its spending and debt in check while still running the data center.
This move fits the current trend of tech giants pouring big money into AI-focused infrastructure, helping Meta push its AI ambitions and reduce its long-term dependence on outside cloud providers.
