Nandan Nilekani warns AI will spur Indian layoffs and startups
Business
Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani says AI is set to shake up jobs in India, especially at big companies where automation could lead to more layoffs.
But there's a bright side: small businesses and startups are likely to drive future job growth, since their work is less structured and harder for AI to replace.
Nilekani: 1 million startups, portable benefits
Nilekani believes India could see its startup scene explode from 150,000 to 1 million by 2035 if rules get simpler and digital tools like RBI's Account Aggregator and ONDC help out.
As gig work becomes more common, he also suggests it's time for "portable benefits" and credentials that move with workers as they switch jobs, a big shift from the old-school career path.
