Nelco gets government nod to resell satellite internet
Tata Group's Nelco just got the green light from the government to resell satellite internet, potentially partnering with companies such as Starlink, OneWeb, Amazon's Kuiper, and Jio Satellite, with a confirmed agreement with Eutelsat OneWeb.
Instead of building its own network, Nelco will use a virtual network operator license to offer satellite-powered broadband and mobile connectivity across India.
Nelco's satellite communications market push
Nelco recently signed a deal with Eutelsat OneWeb for low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite service in India—moving on from an earlier partnership with Telesat that faced launch delays.
CEO P.J. Nath says working with both LEO and GEO operators is key for better coverage.
With experts predicting India's satellite communications market could jump from $2.3 billion now to $20 billion by 2028, Nelco is also exploring more licenses to expand its business.
