New labor codes shake up work rules for Indian companies

Business

India just rolled out four new Labor Codes, replacing 29 old laws.
Companies now have 45 days to adjust, and these changes will impact everything from paychecks to workplace safety.

What's changing for your paycheck (and your boss)

Employers must make sure basic pay is at least half of your total salary—so if you're on a low basic, expect bigger contributions to provident fund and gratuity (which means higher costs for companies).
Businesses also need to update how they handle complaints, unions, and contract workers.

New perks and protections for employees

The codes bring in free yearly health check-ups if you're over 40, and require safe transport for women working night shifts—a big deal especially in tech or companies running late hours.
There are also new national standards for worker welfare and safety, so employers have more rules to follow to keep everyone protected.
