Preeti Lobana: Google to invest $15B in Visakhapatnam AI hub
Google India's vice-president and country manager, Preeti Lobana, says compute capacity is basically the backbone of today's AI era, just like power grids powered the industrial revolution.
She shared that Google is investing $15 billion in a 1-gigawatt AI data center hub in Visakhapatnam, all part of India's push to hit a $1 trillion digital economy.
Compute infrastructure will speed AI growth
Lobana highlighted how better compute infrastructure will speed up AI-driven growth and reach more people.
She pointed to Tata Steel rolling out 300 AI agents in just nine months and praised startups popping up even in smaller cities.
Google is also working on making Gemini Live, which is now supporting 25 Indian languages, available and digitizing local dialects so everyone (from small businesses to workers) can benefit.
As Lobana put it, "You can use AI to upskill people much faster and scale better than you could pre-AI, but it's also about how to use AI to be far more productive and effective."
