
RBI names Sonali Sen Gupta as its new Executive Director

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Sonali Sen Gupta as its new Executive Director (ED), effective October 9. The announcement was made via an official press release by the central bank. Prior to this, Sen Gupta served as the Regional Director for Karnataka at Bengaluru Regional Office. She has over three decades of experience at RBI in various key departments, including Financial Inclusion, Human Resource Management, Banking Regulation, and Supervision.

As the new Executive Director, Sen Gupta will be in charge of three key departments: Consumer Education and Protection Department, Financial Inclusion and Development Department, and Inspection Department. The press release also highlighted her academic qualifications, noting that she is a post-graduate with an MBA in Banking and Finance. Additionally, she is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF).

Representing India internationally
During her time at RBI, Sen Gupta has represented India on multiple international platforms. She has been a part of the G20 - Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) and OECD - International Network on Financial Education (INFE). The press release further noted that she was a Director on the board of the National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE) and a member of various internal/external committees shaping RBI's policy/regulatory framework.
