RBI measures lift India's forex reserves nearly $50B to $716.90B
India's foreign exchange reserves have soared by almost $50 billion in just seven weeks, hitting $716.90 billion as of August 14, 2026.
This streak comes from the Reserve Bank of India rolling out measures to attract more dollars into the country, giving India a stronger financial safety net during uncertain times.
RBI Governor Malhota expects $80B inflows
Most of the growth came from a rise in foreign currency assets (up $7.2 billion) and gold reserves (up $2.67 billion).
Indian banks also pulled in $53 billion through special FCNR-B deposits and another $4.5 billion from overseas borrowing schemes.
Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhota expects these efforts could bring total inflows up to $80 billion, which is great news for keeping India's economy steady if global markets get shaky.
