RBI to withdraw 1L cr amid $137 billion inflows

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to withdraw ₹1 lakh crore from the banking system this month.
This move comes after banks brought in $137 billion in dollar inflows, leaving the system with way more cash than usual, about ₹10.43 lakh crore as of Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Three OMO totalling 1L cr
To bring things back to normal, RBI will run three rounds of open market operations (OMO): ₹50,000 crore on September 17 and two more tranches of ₹25,000 crore each on September 21 and 28.
Banks have been leaning toward quick fixes lately, like short-term auctions that recently soaked up ₹3.45 lakh crore.
RBI says it's keeping an eye on "current and evolving liquidity conditions," and will use other tools like dollar-rupee swaps if needed.
