Rolls-Royce wants to build tank engines in India
Rolls-Royce is asking the Indian government for permission to make engines for the Arjun Main Battle Tank and other military vehicles right here in India.
It's a big step toward less dependence on imports and more "Made in India" defense tech.
They plan to locally produce their MB838 engine and the Series 199 family for various platforms, including light tanks.
Full tech transfer and local jobs on the table
Here's what stands out: Rolls-Royce isn't just assembling parts—they're offering full technology and intellectual property transfer to Indian partners.
That means Indian teams could handle everything from making key components to putting entire engines together.
They're starting with about 27-30% local content, aiming for half of each engine made in India down the line.
Already part of India's defense scene
Rolls-Royce is no stranger here—they already support over 1,400 engines across India's Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force.
This new push could help grow homegrown defense skills and cut down on expensive imports—good news if you care about tech jobs or national self-reliance.
