Rupee to gain against dollar as Trump-Modi seal trade deal
Business
The Indian rupee is expected to get stronger against the US dollar thanks to a new trade agreement between India and the US.
Announced by US President Donald Trump on social media following a call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the deal removes steep tariffs on Indian goods—some as high as 50%—making it easier for foreign investors to return and reducing pressure on currency markets.
Rupee to open higher on Tuesday
On Tuesday, the rupee is set to open noticeably higher, around 90.15-90.25 per dollar (up from Monday's 91.5125).
Experts like Marc Velan say this move clears up a lot of policy uncertainty, which should help Indian assets overall.
Plus, with fewer tariff hurdles, Indian exports could become more competitive globally—a win for businesses.
