SBI developing UPI-based lending checks for businesses without GST registration
Business
State Bank of India (SBI) is developing a new way to check if small businesses qualify for loans by looking at their UPI transaction history.
This move is especially helpful for businesses that don't have GST registration and usually miss out on formal financing.
SBI's Managing Director Ashwini Kumar Tewari shared the plan at the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai.
SBI targets 24-hour loans using UPI
SBI aims to offer fully digital loans within 24 hours using UPI transactions as a proxy for sales.
Over the past 18 months, they have given out ₹1 lakh crore in loans based on GST and PAN data, but now they want to include businesses without GST numbers by using alternative data like telecom insights with customer consent.
