SEBI proposes FICPs and ad curbs for corporate bond investors
SEBI just rolled out a proposal to help more everyday people invest in corporate bonds.
The plan introduces Fixed-Income Channel Partners (FICPs): think of them as guides who'll help you sign up, complete KYC, and handle transactions on online bond platforms.
SEBI also wants to clean up how these bonds are advertised, so you won't get tricked by flashy promises or vague "high yield" claims.
Public feedback is open until September 11.
FICP eligibility, oversight and disclosures
To be an FICP, you need to be an Indian citizen at least 18 years old, have finished Class 12, and hold a relevant NISM certification. Registered mutual fund distributors can join in too if they qualify.
Online bond platforms will keep tabs on FICPs for compliance and training, making things more transparent and secure for retail investors.
Plus, advertisements for specific securities must clearly spell out risks and returns, so you know exactly what you're getting into.
