SEBI proposes mandatory AML/CFT certification for market intermediaries' principal officers
SEBI is planning a new rule: every market intermediary's principal officer must get certified in anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).
The goal? Make sure Principal Officers of SEBI-registered intermediaries know how to spot and stop shady activities and strengthen compliance capacity.
Officers will have six months to clear the National Institute of Securities Markets's Series XXIV certification/examination on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Provisions in Securities Markets.
SEBI seeks consultation on certification
Right now, there's no set standard for AML/CFT expertise, so some officers know more than others.
This certification aims to level up everyone's skills, covering topics like SEBI's guidelines, KYC checks, and India's money laundering laws.
SEBI also wants your thoughts on this plan; you can share feedback until November 27, 2026.
