Semiconductor Mission 2.0: Budget boosts chip manufacturing push
India has announced a bigger, bolder Semiconductor Mission 2.0 with fresh goals; the Union Budget increased outlays for related schemes but did not specify a direct budgetary allocation for ISM 2.0.
This phase focuses on making more of the equipment and materials needed for chips, building Indian-owned tech (IP), and creating stronger supply chains through industry-driven research and training.
More opportunities for young tech talent
This mission is all about putting India on the global map as a leader in chip design and innovation—especially as tech tensions rise worldwide.
With doubled budgets for manufacturing schemes, big tax breaks for AI data centers, and a combined workforce of about one crore in electronics and IT today, with component manufacturing expected to add roughly 25 lakh jobs, ISM 2.0 could mean more opportunities for young talent in tech, better homegrown gadgets, and a stronger digital future for everyone.
