Sensex gains over 670 points, Nifty settles above 22,400 mark
On Thursday, the stock market had a bearish opening but the benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices witnessed a surge. The Sensex jumped 0.93% to 73,663.72 points, while the Nifty climbed 0.92% to 22,403.85 points. The midcap indices showed bullish signals with the Nifty Midcap 50 rising 0.93% to 14,396.9 points. Who were the biggest gainers and losers?
On Thursday, NIFTY IT, NIFTY REALTY, and NIFTY MEDIA emerged as the top performing sectors, rising 1.64%, 1.61%, and 1.21%, respectively. Mahindra & Mahindra, TATA Consumer Products, and Bharti Airtel emerged as the top performing stocks, edging up 3.3%, 2.9%, and 2.66%, respectively. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki, BPCL, and State Bank of India lead the negative pack, plummeting 2.09%, 0.98%, and 0.89%, respectively.

In the Asian markets, both Shanghai Composite Index and Nikkei traded in red, slipping to 3,122.4 points and 38,920.26 points, respectively. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng Index jumped 1.56% to 19,376.53 points. In the US market, NASDAQ rose 231.21 points, or 1.4%, to 16,742.39 points.
INR witnessed no change against US dollar
The Indian rupee (INR) remained flat at ₹83.5 against the US dollar in the forex trade on Thursday. Also, the gold futures witnessed little movement, settling flat at ₹73,062, while the silver futures jumped 0.29% to ₹87,114. The crude oil futures were trading flat to settle at $78.41 per barrel.
Fuel prices in Delhi and Mumbai
On Thursday, fuel prices stayed steady. In Delhi, diesel is priced at ₹87.62 per liter while petrol costs ₹94.72 per liter. In Mumbai, diesel is being sold at ₹92.15 per liter and petrol stands at ₹104.21 per liter.
