What's the story

On Monday, the benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices showed an upward trend. The Sensex rose by 1.39% to 54,521.15 points while the Nifty gained 1.41% to end at 16,278.5 points. Who were the biggest gainers and losers?

As far as the top performing sectors of the market are concerned, NIFTY IT, NIFTY PSU BANK, and NIFTY METAL led the way, gaining 3.07%, 2.7%, and 2.43%, respectively. Meanwhile, the top stock gainers were Titan Company, Hindalco, and JSW Steel, which climbed 5.93%, 5.52%, and 4.7%, respectively. Among the biggest sector losers were NIFTY PHARMA and NIFTY FMCG, shedding 0.15% and 0.09%, respectively.

Coming to the Asian markets, both Shanghai Composite Index and Nikkei traded in red, slipping to 3,278.1 points and 26,788.47 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Hang Seng jumped 2.7% to 20,846.18 points. In the US, NASDAQ advanced 201.23 points, or 1.79%, to 11,452.42 points.

INR goes down 0.11% against the US Dollar

The Indian rupee (INR) slipped 0.11% to settle at Rs. 79.97 against the US Dollar in the forex trade on Monday. The prices of both gold and silver futures witnessed a surge. While the former soared 0.98% to Rs. 50,597, the latter jumped 1.22% to Rs. 56,266. Meanwhile, the crude oil future prices surged by $1.59, or 1.63% to $99.29 per barrel.

The fuel prices in Delhi remain unchanged on Monday, with diesel priced at Rs. 89.66/liter and petrol costing Rs. 96.76/liter. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, diesel is priced at Rs. 94.25/liter while petrol costs Rs. 106.29/liter.
