Sensex climbs 630 points, Nifty settles above 16,500

On Wednesday, the benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices witnessed a surge, extending their winning streak for the fourth day in a row. The Sensex jumped 1.14% to 55,397.53 points while the Nifty climbed 1.09% to 16,520.85 points. Meanwhile, the midcap stocks traded flat with the Nifty Midcap 50 settling at 7,906.65 points. On Wednesday, NIFTY IT, NIFTY FMCG, and NIFTY METAL emerged as the top performing sectors, rising 2.84%, 1.12%, and 1.1%, respectively. The top gaining stocks were ONGC, Tech Mahindra, and TCS, adding 3.71%, 3.6%, and 2.82%, respectively. Among the biggest stock losers were HDFC Life, M&M, and Sun Pharma, which plunged 1.99%, 1.82%, and 1.47%, respectively.
Coming to the Asian markets, both Shanghai Composite Index and Nikkei on Wednesday traded in red, slipping to 3,304.72 points and 27,680.26 points, respectively. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng Index jumped 1.11% to 20,890.22 points. In the US market, NASDAQ edged 3.11% higher to 11,713.15 points.
On Wednesday, the Indian rupee (INR) declined 0.06% against the US Dollar to end at Rs. 79.99 in the forex trade. Also, the gold futures witnessed little movement, settling flat at Rs. 50,400, while the silver futures jumped 0.31% to Rs. 55,898. Separately, the crude oil future prices declined by $1.28, or 1.27% to $99.44/barrel.
The fuel prices in Delhi remain unchanged on Wednesday, with diesel priced at Rs. 89.66/liter and petrol costing Rs. 96.76/liter. In Mumbai, diesel is priced at Rs. 94.25/liter while petrol costs Rs. 106.29/liter.
The world's most popular cryptocurrency Bitcoin is currently trading at $23,530.05, a 0.77% increase from yesterday. Meanwhile, Ethereum is up by 1.23% and is currently selling at $1,550.67. Tether, BNB, and Cardano are trading at $1.00 (flat), $267.23 (0.99% up), and $0.5298 (1.12% up), respectively. Finally, Dogecoin is trading 1.40% higher compared to yesterday at $0.07447.
