Rivaling Airtel, Tata Sky reduces prices of its set-top boxes
Rivaling Airtel Digital TV, Dish TV, and others, Tata Sky has once again slashed the prices of its DTH set-top boxes (STBs) by up to Rs. 300. The latest revision comes just a couple of days after Airtel reduced the prices of its SD and HD STBs by Rs. 500. The new prices are now effective across all sales channels. Here's more.
With the latest revision, the HD STB is now available at Rs. 1,299 while the SD option is listed at Rs. 1,099. Notably, on the company's website, the price cut mentioned is Rs. 501 considering the original MRPs of Rs. 1,800 (HD) and Rs. 1,600 (SD). Notably, Tata Sky had slashed the prices of its STBs in July this year by upto Rs. 301.
The new prices are reflecting on the Tata Sky website and should be effective across all local dealers and retail stores in India. Note that the prices mentioned earlier are for the STB alone, you will need to subscribe to a channel pack separately.
Tata Sky's SD STB is the entry-level device, compatible with TVs that have AV ports, and offers standard definition (SD) channels with DVD picture quality and CD-quality sound. It is currently priced at Rs. 1,099 and you will have to subscribe to a channel pack separately. Based on the pack, additional charges will apply including subscription fee, Network Capacity Fees (NCF) and taxes.
If you have a TV with an HDMI port, you should buy the Tata Sky HD STB. This STB brings cinematic experience with 1080i resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio along with Dolby Digital Surround Sound. The HD STB is priced at Rs. 1,299 and you will have to subscribe to a channel pack separately as well as pay for NCF charges.
