Trade Minister Rogers Valencia says Peru-India FTA nearly finalized
Peru's Trade Minister Rogers Valencia shared that the Free Trade Agreement with India is nearly finished after years of negotiations.
Peru hopes to seal the deal by 2027 and has sent a counterproposal to India, waiting for their reply.
Valencia admitted the process has been "lengthy," but things are moving forward.
India becomes Peru's 2nd-largest export market
India has emerged as the second-largest destination for Peruvian exports, overtaking the United States, thanks to a huge spike in gold exports.
From January to July 2026, Peruvian exports to India totalled $6.184 billion, up 152% from the same period a year earlier, while U.S.-bound exports grew much less.
China still tops the list for Peru because of its demand for copper and minerals.
Peru expects exports over $100 billion
Peru expects total exports in 2026 to cross $100 billion, up from $91 billion last year.
Meanwhile, talks are underway with US officials about higher US duties imposed on Peruvian exports in July, with more discussions planned during the U.N. General Assembly later this month.
