UK clears Paramount Skydance $110 billion Warner Bros Discovery takeover
The UK just approved Paramount Skydance's massive $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros Discovery.
This happened after Paramount strengthened assurances about programming and news provision, making them legally binding commitments.
Regulators decided the merger won't mess with competition in big areas like streaming or TV, so there won't be any long delays.
US judge halts deal
To seal the deal, Paramount-owned Channel 5's news would remain editorially separate from CNN International and CBS News.
Kids' TV will also stay unique.
While this is a big win for Paramount in the UK the deal, which has been halted by a US judge pending an antitrust challenge, will avoid lengthy reviews in Britain, leaving the US states, led by California, as the remaining major regulatory hurdle.
