US sanctions could shake up India's Russian oil imports

Business

India might soon face a hiccup in its oil supply, as millions of barrels of Russian crude are racing toward Indian ports—just as new US sanctions kick in on Friday.
Big refiners like Reliance plan to halt Russian oil deliveries after the deadline, making things tricky for India's usual import routine.

What this means for Indian refineries

About 7.7 million barrels of Russian Urals crude are set to land at major refineries like Reliance's Jamnagar and Nayara Energy's Vadinar by December.
While Nayara is still receiving shipments, others like Indian Oil Corp will only buy non-sanctioned grades.
With these sanctions targeting four top Russian suppliers—who account for as much as 80% of Russia's exports to India—the country may need to rethink how it keeps its energy flowing if ships get stuck or need rerouting.
