US Supreme Court rebuffs TCS in $168 million trade secrets case
Business
The US Supreme Court just turned away Tata Consultancy Services's (TCS) request to overturn a $168 million penalty in a trade secrets fight with DXC Technology.
The case goes back to 2019, when TCS was accused of misusing software know-how tied to life insurance.
The original proposed damages award was $210 million, but it got trimmed down by a judge in 2024.
Courts find unjust enrichment against TCS
DXC claimed TCS got an unfair advantage after hiring 2,200 Transamerica employees who knew their software inside out.
TCS pushed back, saying they did nothing wrong and that the information wasn't even a real trade secret.
Still, courts sided with DXC, calling it "unjust enrichment," and said no more appeals were needed.
