US tech giants announce mass layoffs in 2025
In the first half of 2025, big names like Intel, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta have let go of over 33,600 employees while ramping up investments in AI and automation.
The move is all about streamlining operations and cutting costs as the industry leans into new tech.
Intel is cutting over 10,000 jobs (about a fifth of its Foundry division) starting July.
Microsoft let go of more than 6,000 people in May and may trim more sales roles soon.
Amazon has axed 14,000 corporate jobs this year—pointing to AI integration as a key reason.
Meta and other companies also reducing workforce
Meta plans to lay off another 3,600 workers in early 2025 after already cutting over 21,000 since last year.
Other firms like CrowdStrike and Block are also shrinking teams as tech companies double down on automation to boost efficiency.
Microsoft to invest $80 billion in AI this fiscal year
Even with layoffs making headlines, Microsoft is putting $80 billion into new AI infrastructure for this fiscal year—a sign that the race for smarter tech isn't slowing down anytime soon.
