Vast lays off 46 employees after raising $500 million for Haven
Vast, a space station company started by cryptocurrency billionaire Jed McCaleb, just let go of 46 employees, about 4% of its team.
The layoffs happened just months after Vast raised $500 million to speed up its Haven space station project, which hopes to step in when the International Space Station retires.
Vast reports 277 open jobs
A Vast spokesperson said the cuts were due to performance reviews, and reassured that these roles will be filled again.
In fact, there are 277 open jobs at Vast right now.
Despite the shakeup, the company is pushing ahead with Haven-1 (set to launch on a SpaceX rocket in 2027) and a larger Haven-2 station for up to 12 people.
Vast is also teaming up with the European Space Agency and working on satellite tech, so its ambitions in orbit aren't slowing down anytime soon.
