Waymo's driverless taxis pricier than Uber, Lyft

Business

Waymo's self-driving taxis are charging more than Uber and Lyft in San Francisco, with an average fare of $20.43 compared to $15.58 for Uber and $14.44 for Lyft. Even though the price is higher, people still seem excited to try Waymo—many are drawn in by the tech and the technology and novelty of driverless cars.

Riders are willing to pay extra for a driverless ride

Waymo's fares jump even higher during peak hours—about $11 more than Lyft and nearly $9.50 above Uber for similar trips. Surprisingly, riders don't seem put off; as Ashwini Anburajan from Obi puts it, users appreciate the technology despite the higher costs. In fact, Waymo handles around 250,000 paid trips every week, showing that a lot of folks are willing to pay extra for a driverless ride that feels futuristic and reliable.
