Zeta and Pluxee launch RuPay prepaid passkeys replacing SMS OTPs
Zeta and Pluxee just launched a new way to pay with RuPay prepaid cards: no more waiting for SMS one-time passwords.
Now, you can register a secure passkey during checkout, and future payments use your fingerprint, face scan, or device PIN.
It's supported by NPCI and aims to make transactions quicker and safer.
Passkey payments take 5-7 seconds
With passkeys, payments take only 5 to 7 seconds (instead of up to 25 seconds). This upgrade comes as digital payment fraud in India crossed ₹21,367 crore in FY2025.
Passkeys are tough to hack and help protect against phishing.
Zeta says 99% of users have already registered successfully, and they're working with additional RuPay issuers to extend passkey authentication to a broader cardholder base.
Plus, it lines up with RBI's new two-factor rules in effect since April 1, 2026.
