Delhi to have respite, showers expected on Tuesday
Delhiites can heave a sigh of relief from the scorching heat on Tuesday with rainfall to be expected across Delhi NCR. The Meteorological office has forecasted that the heat wave is likely to continue till Tuesday. The mercury shot upto 47 degrees on Sunday making it the hottest day in the city since May 2015. Registered Vehicles' number in Delhi crosses one crore mark
The number of registered vehicles crossed one crore mark. The transport department of Delhi government puts the number of registered vehicles at 1,05,67,712 till May 25. There are 31,72,842 registered cars in the city. The biggest air polluters which include scooters and motorbikes stand at 66,48,730. Every year over a million die from air pollution.
$60,000 worth foreign currency seized from Bangkok flyers
Customs and CISF arrested two Bangkok bound passengers and seized $60,000 (nearly Rs. 38 lakh) from them at IGI airport. The currency was concealed in items like power banks, mobile chargers and even a packet of biscuits. According to officials, Aftab Sheikh was intercepted after something suspicious was detected in the power banks during checking. The CCTV footage helped nab the second culprit.
AAP declares countrywide agitation for rights of farmers
With the intention of fighting for the rights of farmers, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declared a countrywide agitation on Monday. At a national executive meeting held on Sunday, AAP decided to have organizational structure like Delhi's in other states as well which will pave the way for protests on behalf of farmers in distress. This step comes in light of farmer suicides across states.
Security boosted at the newly launched Heritage Line
Security features have been boosted at the stations of the recently launched Delhi Metro's Heritage Line. Central Intelligence Security Force (CISF) has deployed 261 police personnel at four stations. A six foot tall glass wall has been installed to distinctly demarcate the checked and unchecked areas. CCTV cameras have been added.
Ghaziabad police rescues abducted minor girls, culprits arrested
The Ghaziabad police rescued three abducted minor girls and arrested three persons. Police said that the persons had lured the girls and they have been booked in two cases at the Indirapuram police station. Abduction cases have been lodged against them. Human trafficking case was not considered. Officials also stated that the girls denied getting a medical examination post their rescue.
