'3 Idiots' is IMDb's most popular Indian movie globally
Aamir Khan's 2009 classic "3 Idiots" just got crowned the most popular Indian movie worldwide, according to IMDb's special report on 25 years of Indian cinema (2000-2025).
The film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, scored a perfect 100 on IMDb's global popularity index and sits at the top spot for Indian films in the IMDb Top 250.
'3 Idiots' vs other Indian films
Turns out, over 80% of "3 Idiots" page views come from outside India—so it's not just an Indian favorite.
Other movies like "Taare Zameen Par," "My Name is Khan," "The Lunchbox," and "Monsoon Wedding" have fans abroad too but don't score nearly as high.
Even big hits like "Dangal," "RRR," and "PK" haven't matched its international buzz.
How Aamir Khan's movies became global hits
IMDb summed it up nicely: "Few movies truly deserve the title of crossover hits... this quadrant is dominated by Aamir Khan movies."
Basically, his knack for telling stories that feel both deeply Indian and totally universal has helped take Bollywood to audiences all over the world.
