5 biggest movies to look forward to in 2019

2019 is arriving and every new year brings with it new promise and more importantly, for cinephiles, new films. It is a huge year with some of Hollywood's biggest names like Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino releasing their films. Remember, if ever you don't have much to look forward to, films will always be there to comfort you. Read 2019's most anticipated movies.

The master of mob stories returns again

Netflix's The Irishman will be Martin Scorsese's first movie where legendary actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino will be teaming up. It is a biographical crime story about Frank Sheeran, a labor union member with mob ties, played by De Niro who recalls his involvement in the killing of Jimmy Hoffa, the labor union boss, played by Pacino.

Why we are looking forward to this film?

Scorsese is a master of mob films like Goodfellas and Casino. Al Pacino and De Niro are veteran actors of mob films, having starred in Godfather together. With a cast and director who made a living on mob movies, this film is a guaranteed success.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion wakes tonight

Releasing on July 19, this is one of Disney's most anticipated films of the year. While The Lion King remake cannot top the original, the realistic portrayal and brilliant visuals in the new live-action film promise to bring the African wilderness to life as Simba must win back the throne from his evil uncle Scar and avenge the murder of his father, Mufasa.

Why are we looking forward to this movie?

My personal biases aside, what has me most excited about The Lion King is the visual clarity this film will provide. The trailer already showed us what to expect from the animation. Surely, Mufasa's death in high definition will be even more painful to watch!

Helter Skelter in the summer swelter, Tarantino's biggest project

Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood releases on July 26. With a star cast including Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, the movie will be a crowd-puller. Set in 1969 Hollywood, the film is set during Manson family's murderous spree termed 'Helter Skelter' and follows a TV actor and his stunt double, who happens to be Sharon Tate's neighbors.

Why are we looking forward to this movie?

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a film about subject matter that Tarantino loves. Hollywood is where Tarantino grew up and you can bet his love will shine through in his reference-peppered script. Since this could be his penultimate film, one should expect greatness.

The final Avenger to defend the earth

You all know you cannot wait for March 8 to meet the final Avenger. Captain Marvel is coming and we are all excited. Played by Brie Larson the character will be the first female superhero in Marvel to get a solo movie. The film will explore the battle between Krees and Skrulls, warring alien races, and set up her character to join the Avengers.

Why are we looking forward to this movie?

Captain Marvel is one of the most anticipated movies of 2019. The character has been described as the most powerful Avenger in the MCU and she will be instrumental in defeating Thanos. Fans cannot wait to know her backstory and honestly, Marvel movies never disappoint.

The 'Endgame' arrives to the screens next year

Avengers: Endgame is another highly anticipated film of 2019. When it arrives on April 26, fans will rush to find out what happened to their beloved heroes. The previous movie, Avengers: Infinity War, ended on a cliffhanger when Thanos made half the universe and some beloved superheroes disappear with a finger snap. The upcoming movie will show them reunite and perhaps win the day.

Why are we looking forward to this movie?

Avengers: Endgame will give us all the answers that were raised in Infinity War. We cannot wait to watch the final confrontation with Thanos. The film will also mark the end of Marvel's current phase of movies, ushering in new heroes for the future.
