What's the story

2019 is arriving and every new year brings with it new promise and more importantly, for cinephiles, new films. It is a huge year with some of Hollywood's biggest names like Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino releasing their films. Remember, if ever you don't have much to look forward to, films will always be there to comfort you. Read 2019's most anticipated movies.

The Irishman

The master of mob stories returns again

Netflix's The Irishman will be Martin Scorsese's first movie where legendary actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino will be teaming up. It is a biographical crime story about Frank Sheeran, a labor union member with mob ties, played by De Niro who recalls his involvement in the killing of Jimmy Hoffa, the labor union boss, played by Pacino.

Personal

Why we are looking forward to this film?

Scorsese is a master of mob films like Goodfellas and Casino. Al Pacino and De Niro are veteran actors of mob films, having starred in Godfather together. With a cast and director who made a living on mob movies, this film is a guaranteed success.

The Lion King

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion wakes tonight

Releasing on July 19, this is one of Disney's most anticipated films of the year. While The Lion King remake cannot top the original, the realistic portrayal and brilliant visuals in the new live-action film promise to bring the African wilderness to life as Simba must win back the throne from his evil uncle Scar and avenge the murder of his father, Mufasa.

Personal

Why are we looking forward to this movie?

My personal biases aside, what has me most excited about The Lion King is the visual clarity this film will provide. The trailer already showed us what to expect from the animation. Surely, Mufasa's death in high definition will be even more painful to watch!
