What's the story

"BTW, you look good in saree." This line has taken over West Bengal social media in the last few days. While some have started making memes and jokes around it, at the center lies a Bengali television actor, Riju Biswas, and his identical messages to multiple girls and women. Biswas (37) has been accused of sending unsolicited direct messages (DMs) to multiple women, often complimenting them on their sarees.

Actor's response

Biswas insists his intentions were pure

The allegations came to light after one woman shared screenshots of her Instagram DMs from the Bou Kotha Kao actor, leading others to share similar experiences. The actor has not denied sending the messages but insists his intentions were not inappropriate. Speaking to a Bengali news portal, he said, "Saying to someone that you look good in a saree is a simple compliment. Also, I say this to my mother." However, this explanation didn't really convince all.

Consistent behavior

Alokananda Guha also accused him of making advances

A nutritionist shared a screenshot from 2019 showing a similar message from Biswas at 4:09am, implying a consistent pattern of late-night and early-morning interactions. Actor-model Alokananda Guha has also accused Biswas of making advances under the guise of professional communication. She alleged that he first contacted her on Facebook with a work offer and later messaged her saying she had "spoiled his mood" after Guha went to the shooting location with her mother and sister.

Defense

Content creator defends Biswas

Meanwhile, content creator Jharna Bhowal publicly defended Biswas. She said she did not find the actor's behavior inappropriate during a shoot they had in Shantiniketan. "I didn't find Rijuda to be a bad person. The request to wear sarees was part of a traditional concept for the shoot." After the backlash didn't stop, Biswas went live and apologized to anyone he might have hurt. Separately, he has reportedly filed a police complaint claiming "harassment" and "breach of privacy," per PTI.
