Day 2 at Cannes: Bharat Pavilion inauguration and 'Furiosa' premiere
The second day of the ongoing 77th Cannes Film Festival was marked by two significant events - the premiere of the Hollywood film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the inauguration of the Bharat Pavilion. The movie, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, received a standing ovation lasting seven minutes and 50 seconds. Meanwhile, the inauguration of the Bharat Pavilion, formerly known as the India Pavilion, is a step forward toward the elevation of Indian cinema on the global stage.
Bharat Pavilion inauguration marked a proud moment for India
The inauguration of the Bharat Pavilion was led by Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Jawed Ashraf, Ambassador of India to France. Esteemed guests at the ceremony included Tholoana Rose Ncheke, Chairperson of the National Film and Video Foundation in South Africa, and filmmaker Richie Mehta, among others. Per PIB, "The Bharat Pavilion serves as a dynamic platform, providing a gateway to the diverse landscape of Indian films, talent, and industry opportunities."
Movie premiere: Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth stunned through their sartorial choices
Not only did Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy leave the audience in awe through their hold on the craft, but they also packed a punch through their sartorial choices. Taylor-Joy looked breathtaking in a champagne-colored Dior ball gown, with the highlight of her ensemble being her Tiffany & Co. jewelry. The Marvel star, meanwhile, looked dapper in his black trousers and white jacket and shirt. Furiosa is a prequel to George Miller's acclaimed 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road.

'Furiosa's India release and director's gratitude
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set to release in Indian theaters on May 23, while its US premiere will take place on May 24. Following the Cannes premiere, director Miller expressed his gratitude, stating, "Thank you. We worked very hard on this film and it is very interesting to see what you make of it." Audience member and director Baz Luhrmann described the film as a "steampunk, Wagnerian opera."
This is how the movie describes itself
The film's synopsis reads, "As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe." "While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."
